'Arthur Conan Doyleââ¬â¢s stories Essay\r'
'Arthur Conan Doyle was a well fare writer during the puritanic Era and fluent is today. He was famous for his stories. One of his books had a fictional character that caught raftââ¬â¢s attention. This character is a spectacular detective, intelligence officer Holmes. People loved Sherlock Holmes so much because he always solves the episode and always defeat evil. In situation, in one of Arthurââ¬â¢s short story, ââ¬ËThe dotted Bandââ¬â¢, Sherlock Holmes was described as ââ¬Å"the Scotland Yard Jack-in-officeââ¬Â and ââ¬Å"the busybody!ââ¬Â\r\nThis period of epoch is called the nice Era because the ruler during this period was Queen Victoria. There were a hoi polloi of crimes committed at this time. Common ones were make and drug abuse, which were feared greatly by people. The intent style of people in the Victorian Era was opposite to e genuinelyday life. In the Victorian Times, there were three different groups of people. These were the upper clas s â⬠rich and muscular people who donââ¬â¢t consume to wrench, middle class â⬠have to work to support but non visible work, and lower/working class â⬠little people with no money and whole caboodle physically.\r\nââ¬ËThe Speckled Bandââ¬â¢ and ââ¬ËThe Man with the misshapen Lipââ¬â¢ are one of Arthur Conan Doyleââ¬â¢s stories. This piece of writing is to show how these dickens stories give the indorsers an idea of how people lived and behaved in the Victorian Era and what people expect of certain people because of either their gender, their ethnicity or their class. In Victorian Times, women were treated differently to men. Women within this time were considered to be very emotional. We know this because in ââ¬ËThe Man with the worm Lipââ¬â¢ when Mrs St Clair adage the blood on a window, she ââ¬Å"fainted at the sight of blood.ââ¬Â The mention tells us that women were hysterical and they are non strong enough to receive wild news because theyââ¬â¢d sometimes interruption d suffer.\r\nAnother situation that proves this is when Sherlock was creation assured by Mrs St Clair that if he answers her question, he should ââ¬Å"not trouble about my feelings. I am not hysterical, nor given to fainting.ââ¬Â similarly informing the readers that, women knew their weaknesses and their strengths. However, men in the Victorian Times always thought things through. We know this because Sherlock express, ââ¬Å"ââ¬Â¦ the impression of a cleaning woman may be more rich than the conclusion of an analytical reasoner.ââ¬Â This let the reader know that men looks at the fact and take time to analyse and mark things and they donââ¬â¢t just cross to conclusions.\r\nThey thought they could handle situations for themselves and donââ¬â¢t need womenââ¬â¢s help at all. The readers detect this when Mrs St Clair ââ¬Å"ââ¬Â¦was escorted homeââ¬Â¦as her forepart was no helpââ¬Â¦Ã¢â¬Â We know that Neville ââ¬â¢s wife saw everything and the police knew that she saw her husband but still said she couldnââ¬â¢t help their investigation. Men had everything and they were in master financially. Women couldnââ¬â¢t have control everywhere their money until they were settled with their own husbands. This happened to Helen Stoner, from the story of ââ¬ËThe Speckled Bandââ¬â¢. She wanted Sherlock Holmes to investigate something for her but she didnââ¬â¢t have the money on her wherefore however she guaranteed Holmes that ââ¬Å"ââ¬Â¦in a calendar month or six weeks I shall be married, with control of my incomeââ¬Â¦Ã¢â¬Â Men had authority over a lot of things. People that were not British were disliked by a lot of the Victorians. They are thought to be a danger in the friendship and are unwanted.\r\nThere were different ethnic people in the Victorian Era. These people were not White British. They had different life style to Victorian people. Some of this people were t he Malays. Malays was what they called Malaysian people. In the story of ââ¬ËThe Man with the perverse Lipââ¬â¢ the Malays were mentioned just once. This was when Dr Watson, Sherlock Holmesââ¬â¢ ancillary and loyal friend, entered an opium den, ââ¬Å"ââ¬Â¦a swallow Malay attendant had hurried up with a pipeââ¬Â¦Ã¢â¬Â Opium den is like a drug den which was run and supplied by the Malaysians. In the same story, we are do known to a different ethnic individual, ââ¬Å"lascar.ââ¬Â A lascar is an East Indian sailor.\r\n'
